Description

Fragment of a marble tree trunk with a piece of drapery attached, probably part of the support of a statue: broken off at each end. Fine-grained white marble. Surface fairly well preserved but worn away along edge of drapery and either worn away of originally roughened in several places on tree trunk: small amount of line deposit on broken as well as on original surfaces. Max.h.: .092; max. dia. at lower end: .077; max. w. at top from spur of trunk to edge of drapery: .109; max. l. of drapery preserved: .066. Surface of drapery has a gloss in contrast to the unpolished surface of the tree trunk. In lower end a dowel hole off center, max. depth .012; no trace of a metal dowel. Found with Late C and Roman lamp, Antioch Group X-XI.
