Corridor of Pool

H. 1.60m W. 2.08m Sea Goddess panel. Outer border gray; crowstep border, red; on dark gray background, guilloche border with strands of a) white, light gray and dark blue-green glass, b) white, yellow and yellow-brown, and c) white, pink and red; another crowstep border of dark red, followed by a dark gray frame. In the center of the composition is a gray square with a gray sircle inscribed; spandrels filled with zigzag rows of white, pink, red, dark gray, light gray, yellow and yellow-brown; inner inscribed circle forming frame of scene red. Sea Goddess: left shoulder and most of head destroyed; strands of seaweed in dark blue-green glass falling over head and breast; lower part of body draped in seaweed striped in black, gray-green, light gray, gray, pale blue-gray and in dark blue-green glass; foot, pink with red shadow; face, pink with white highlights and brown shadow under chin; outlines of body dark, medium and light red; flesh pink to white with brown and yellow shadows. Sea serpent in right hand: body, gray spotted and outlined with black; fangs black; horns dark gray with black shadows; tongue, orange glass; red spines on back. Putto: body outlined in light, medium and dark red: flesh pink to white; hair, light gray with dark red contours and touches of yellow and brown; features accented in dark red with touches of yellow-orange on nose and mouth; pupil of right eye composed of one dark red-violet tessera and two tesserae of dark gold-brown glass; wings, dark blue-green glass with light gray highlights; around neck are two strands of orange glass, dark red glass and yellow-green glass; right hand grasps red garland with red ribbon and dark violet-red shadows. Dolphin: upper part outlined in black and gray; face outlined in red and underparts outlined in light red; body, tail and fins, green glass; eye, white with pupil of blue glass; reins, dark red. Fish below: outlined in gray; upper parts dark and medium red flecked with gray; body pink with yellow and brown stripes; fins, dark red; gills outlined in dark red; mouth parts red shading to pink, yellow and brown; eye white outlined in red with blue glass pupil. Background of water gray with badly decomposed dark blue-green glass seaweed.
