Description
H. 2.19 W. 1.30 Mosaic pavement in Room 3. Wavecrest borders, red and white. Double guilloche border outlined in black, with white dots; the strands composed of, a) grey shading to white, b) dark yellow shading to white, c) red shading to white. Emblema: field black except behind head and arm of caryatid where it is dark blue glass. Podium for the caryatid: vertical faces in elevation, tan and yellowish tan; central panel, black corner outlined in white; vertical faces in perspective, pale tan and white; central panel, emerald glass; outline, dark tan; base molding, from bottom up, grey with a line of black and a line of white, brown-grey, black, and grey. Shaft back of caryatid: face in perspective, light grey with black shadow at capital; face in elevation, remains of indeterminate glass (transparent blue?), with grey shadows on capital. Caryatid: body and robe yellow with white highlights and shadows brown, red, dark and very dark grey; eyes, black; hair and eyebrows brown shaded in dark red; polos, yellow with white highlights, shaded in brown and red. Pediment: dark red; raking cornice (going outward), rows of black, olive green, white, yellow, red, and yellow. Top of shaft to edge of entablature: rows of black, yellow, grey, yellow and olive-green. Entablature (reading up) rows of black, yellow, red, and white, with five rows of green glass shading, from right to left, yellow-green, spring green, emerald and blue green; above these rows of green are rows of black, olive green, yellow, red and white. Interior within architectural frame, red with very dark grey shadow in center with remains of dark blue glass behind the figures. Fragment of face at left, violet with pinkish white highlights; eye, olive green; hair, violet shaded in dark red. Female figure at right: flesh white with violet and grey shadows. Tunic, seen at neck, has traces of dark blue glass. Himation, brown-grey shaded in dark violet. In her right hand she holds what seems to be the end of a wand in very dark violet, which, judging from the position of her left arm, must have the other end held in her left hand. Below the break just above the edge of the interior are a few olive green limestone tesserae, and a few dark blue, orange, and red glass tesserae.
