Description
Fragment of glass bowl with gold leaf applied both inside and out. A design was drawn in black ink (?) on the gold and over this was placed some coating, perhaps of wax, to hold the gold leaf on. The think coating of wax now on the object was applied shortly after finding for preservation. The bowl seems to have a rounded bottom with sides slanting at 45 degrees altho this is conjectural. The design is in two horizontal registers bounded by two parallel .002 apart. The upper register shows a fragment of a medallion of ovoid leaves, outlined and filled with diagonal hatching. A portion of the next object would suggest a wind in the same treatment but too fragmentary to tell. The lower register (.024) has two large leaves developing from a point with a bud between. The same motive in reverse follows, the one upside down from the other. The background is hatched in with diagonal strokes. The glass is translucent and blue. h: .047: w: .036: t: .003.
