East College

1832-1833 (1897)

East College, Princeton University, Princeton, NJ, 1868 First erected in 1833, East College was situated on the Eastern end of Cannon Green facing its complementary West College, which stood on the opposite side of the Green. Built using Stockton sandstone and containing thirty-two double rooms within four stories, East College was the first building on the campus that was used solely as a student dormitory. Boasting impressive symmetry and sturdy craftsmanship, East College flanked one side of the Green for forty years before being remodeled in 1873, and then another twenty-six before being destroyed in 1897 in order to accommodate the construction of Pyne Library.
