Dickinson Hall

Dickinson Hall

George Browne Post, 1869-1870 (1920)

Dickinson Hall was an academic building built in 1869. It was designed by George B. Post, a notable architect trained in the Beaux-Arts style, which coupled French Neoclassicism with a combination of Gothic and Renaissance elements. Dickinson hall is built in the High Victorian Gothic style and demonstrates many elements of Beaux-Arts, such as the colonnade around the tower that references Greco-Roman architectural principles, the gothic tower, and the large second floor windows that evoke of Gothic cathedral stained glass. Dickinson Hall was named after Johnathon Dickinson, the co-founder and first President of Princeton University. The building ultimately burned down in the Spring of 1920.
