Brokaw Memorial

Brokaw Memorial

Rose and Stone, 1891-1896 (1946)

The Brokaw Memorial was an imposing structure that once served as an architectural centerpiece of Princeton’s southern campus. It was constructed in 1896 to memorialize Princeton student Frederick Brokaw (Class of 1892), who died trying to save a young girl from drowning. Directly adjacent to Dillon Gym, the memorial was used for athletic activities and student clubs until its demolition in 1942. Brokaw’s structure was mostly composed of a distinctive Indiana limestone, with a tall, authoritative cupola invoking Nassau Hall. Today, its former location is home to Dillon East and West Court buildings.
