Class of 1877 Biological Laboratory

Class of 1877 Biological Laboratory

Arthur Page Brown, 1887-1888 (1946)

The Biological Laboratory was built in 1887 by the New York firm of Wainwright Parish & J. Langdon Schroeder, as a gift from the Princeton University Class of 1877. The building housed both the Geology and Biology departments until 1909, whereupon Guyot Hall was built to create more room for each department. In order to make space for the construction of Firestone Library in 1946, it was decided that the Class of 1877 Biological Laboratory was to be demolished. The terracotta plaque commemorating the construction of the Biological Laboratory can still be seen on the south wall of Firestone Library.
